Azoles antifungal agents have greatly added to the therapeutic options for treatment of systemic fungal infections. The azoles that are available for systemic use can be classified into 2 groups:
- Triazoles (fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole, and isavuconazole)
- Imidazoles (ketoconazole)
It’s extremely easy to perform antifungal susceptibility testing with the Liofilchem RPMI Agar plates (recommended medium for AFST) and the Antifungal MTS™? (MIC Test Strip).
- Read azoles MIC at 80% of growth
- Ignore white microcolonies inside the inhibition ellipse
