Azoles antifungal agents

Downloads

Azoles antifungal agents have greatly added to the therapeutic options for treatment of systemic fungal infections. The azoles that are available for systemic use can be classified into 2 groups:

  1. Triazoles (fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole, and isavuconazole)
  2. Imidazoles (ketoconazole)

It’s extremely easy to perform antifungal susceptibility testing with the Liofilchem RPMI Agar plates (recommended medium for AFST) and the Antifungal MTS™? (MIC Test Strip).

  • Read azoles MIC at 80% of growth
  • Ignore white microcolonies inside the inhibition ellipse
