Microbiological sampling sponges are essential tools for monitoring surface hygiene, especially in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
Unlike traditional swabs, their porous structure and larger surface area allow for greater mechanical pressure, facilitating the detachment of biofilms and bacteria embedded in irregularities in the materials.
Sponges are available as dry or pre-moistened with neutralizing solutions (such as neutralizing buffer or Letheen broth), which are essential for inactivating any disinfectant residues that could distort test results by inhibiting bacterial growth. They are designed to be robust and non-shedding, ensuring that the collected sample is representative of the true microbial load of the area being analyzed.
